UMD    # BIOE

The M.S./M.D. program is administered jointly by the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMB-SOM), Baltimore, and the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. Students applying to the M.S./M.D. program must first be admitted to the M.D. program at the School of Medicine, and should indicate their interest in the dual-degree program when applying to UMB.

The requirements for a M.S. degree in bioengineering within the M.D./M.S. BIOE program include:

  1. 18 credits of courses
  2. 6 credit hours of thesis research (BIOE 799) as part of a research project.

See the graduate courses page for lists of required, restricted and unrestricted elective courses. The M.S. BIOE degree normally also requires two additional unrestricted electives, which would be satisfied by courses in the M.D. component of the curriculum.
