Undergraduate Publishes in Top Polymer Science Journal

Fischell Department of Bioengineering (BioE) junior Omar Ayyub is the second author of a paper he co-wrote with Department of Materials Science and Engineering graduate student and Fischell Fellow Dan Janiak, and BioE professor Peter Kofinas. The paper, titled "Effects of Charge Density on the Recognition Properties of Molecularly Imprinted Polymeric Hydrogels", is being published by Macromolecules, the highest cited journal in the field of polymer science.

Kofinas is proud of the accomplishment. "Not that many undergraduates who do research end up with their name in a high-impact publication," he says. "It's also a commendable achievement for [Janiak] too, to publish in the highest-cited journal in his research field."
