Graduate Program: Financial Support
Questions about the graduate program in bioengineering may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
The department is committed to supporting PhD students for the duration of their studies. For the first year, top entering students are offered a fellowship financial package comprised of an annual stipend (approximately $30K), tuition remission (10 credits each semester), and access to subsidized employee health benefits. Subsequent years' support is renewed with satisfactory academic and research progress, and is typically provided from faculty advisor research funds in the form of a Graduate Research Assistantship with the same fringe benefits described above.
A variety of fellowship opportunities are available, with a few examples listed below.
NSF Graduate Research Fellowship
Ph.D. applicants are strongly encouraged to submit applications for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship program in parallel with application for UMD admission and support.
Other Fellowship Opportunities
The University of Maryland Graduate School and the A. James Clark School of Engineering offer additional fellowship enhancement packages for recruiting outstanding students. Typically, departments must nominate candidates to the College or Graduate School, and additional review and selection is required. Examples of these packages, which many of our students have won, include:
- Dean's Fellowships
- Warren Citrin Fellowship
- Flagship Fellowship
- Ronald E. McNair Graduate Fellowship
