On October 14, 2024, the bioengineering department came together as a community to brainstorm ideas for CED priorities and opportunities over ice cream! A total of 75 BIOE community members participated, including undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff. Participants shared their visions for CED by responding to prompts placed throughout the room and by filling out the department climate survey.

 

 

 

ABRCMS


Supporting our graduate students! Two graduate students attended the ABRCMS conference, November 13-16, 2024 in Pittsburgh, PA. In addition to using the conference as a professional development opportunity, the students also helped with recruiting future Terps for the bioengineering graduate program. 

 

 

 

 

Cards for a Cause

Graduate Career Panel


Katherine Joyner, PhD, a past bioengineering postdoctoral fellow in Gregg Duncan’s lab,  and Patricia Gonzales Hurtado, PhD, a UMD alumna and member of the bioengineering board of visitors, served as panelists for the graduate career panel on December 5, 2024. Both panelists provided personal perspectives and discussed how they navigated their careers. 

 

Undergraduate Research Lunch and Learn


On October 2, 2024, undergraduate students gathered to learn more about how to get involved in undergraduate research. Cari Fergnuson from The Office of Undergraduate Research presented about research opportunities and Maryland, and then students had the opportunity to talk with faculty, graduate students, and current undergraduate student researchers about the best ways to get started.
