Event
20th Anniversary of the Nanotechnology Research and Development Act Symposium
Tuesday, March 5, 2024
9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine - Washington, DC

Scientists and engineers across many fields and disciplines are united by their work at the nanoscale. Their diverse efforts have helped produce everything from faster microchips to powerful mRNA vaccines. The transformative impact of this work has been spurred by the coordination and focus on U.S. nanotechnology established by the 21st Century Nanotechnology Research and Development Act in 2003. Celebrating such a broad impact and envisioning the future can be quite challenging, but this event will bring together voices from across the emerging technology landscape.
Representatives from academia, government, and industry will speak to U.S. success in nanotechnology and future directions in this field. Experts will address quantum engineering; optics; advanced polymers; microelectronics; medicine; education; manufacturing; the environmental, health, and societal implications of nanomaterials; diversity, equity, inclusion, and access; and more. This lively discussion will benefit from including diverse perspectives – including yours!
Students (undergrad and graduate) and postdoctoral fellows are invited to submit a poster to showcase how they are “enabling the nanotechnology revolution.” Abstract submission deadline is December 15, 2023. Selected applicants will be notified January 5, 2024.
Please share this email with colleagues, students, staff, and friends who might be interested in attending this national celebration and discussion of nanotechnology's success and future opportunities.
