About the Speaker
Abhay Pandit is an Established Professor of Biomaterials at the National University of Ireland, Galway. He is the Scientific Director of the Centre for Research in Medical Devices (CÚRAM), a multi-disciplinary academic-industry-clinician translational research centre funded by Science Foundation Ireland and industry. He worked in the medical device industry where he secured regulatory clearance for a hydrophilic wound dressing, and Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) approval for tissue sealants. In his academic career he has licensed three biomaterial technologies to Irish medical device companies. He has secured accreditation for the undergraduate Biomedical Engineering Degree at NUI Galway - the first programmeaccredited in Ireland. He has published 237 papers in high impact peer reviewed journals including the Progress in Materials Science, Progress in Polymer Science, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials and Nature Communications journals. He was inducted as an International Fellow in Biomaterials Science and Engineering. He was inducted as a fellow of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) – the first Irish academic to receive thishonour. He has coordinated four EU projects. He is a Senior Associate Editor and an Executive Editorial Board member for Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering journals. He is a referee for 79 journals and a reviewer for 49 funding agencies. He has delivered 27 Keynote and 8 Plenary Talks.
