On Monday, April 9th, the University of Maryland welcomed Professor Changsheng Liu, Vice President of Shanghai’s East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST). Liu is a member of the prestigious Chinese National Academy of Sciences and for several years his group has been collaborating with researchers from UMD's Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR) and the Fischell Department of Bioengineering.

Liu was in the Washington metropolitan area to attend the annual meeting of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering and to receive Fellows certification at the National Academy of Sciences.

"We have been collaborating with the University of Maryland for years, and yet I had never been on campus and [so I] wanted to take the opportunity to visit," Liu said.

Liu visited professors Xiaoming (Shawn) He (BIOE) and Greg Payne (BIOE, IBBR), along with Jinyang Li a former student in Dr. Liu’s lab and a current doctoral student in the Fischell Department of Bioengineering.

Fischell Family Distinguished Professor and Chair John Fisher and Robert E. Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices Director William Bentley also welcomed Liu to campus by leading a tour through A. James Clark Hall.

"We look forward to expanding our collaboration with ECUST both because their research on thin film electrofabrication nicely aligns with University of Maryland initiatives in additive manufacturing, and also because one of the missions of the Fischell Institute is to catalyze international partnerships."
